The beauty of decline

A FOSS Photo Book: Memento Floris

I recently posted in the shots section photos of my Memento Floris project, which was born in the midst of the Covid pandemic.

On my terrace I watched every day as my calla lilies bloomed and then slowly wilted until they folded like origami.

They age, shrivel and crumple giving rise to geometric shapes and resembling a crumpled sheet of paper.

I searched for other photographic work depicting these flowers and by chance came across this drawing by Ellsworth Kelly from which I was inspired by the photographic style I was looking for: black and white and lots of contrast to enhance the calla’s lines.

I wanted to collect this project into a photo book and some postcards to give as gifts.

One thing I am very proud of is that this book was made using exclusively free and open source software (FOSS).
